Title Why children are better at designing interactive technology than (most) adults
Abstract In this talk I will share my practical experience of participatory design with children. I will illustrate how their natural design skills and their fearlessness when it comes to using technology make them ideal design partners in various contexts. Since children in general may be disempowered by adult-child power relations, successful participatory design relies on overcoming the barriers these relations cause. Based on lessons I have learnt through experience, I will also discuss how young design partners can be given a voice through channels that will sidestep the power relations that might inhibit them in the presence of adults.
