Title Segmentation of Compression Wood Cells
Abstract The mechanical properties of wood fibres are especially important to the forest product industry. Compression wood is a form of reaction wood, which has different properties than normal wood tissue. Tracheids in compression wood usually show different morphology and are more lignified. To be able to study the structure of compression wood measurements of transverse geometry and lignin distribution need to be obtained. Up to now these type of measures have been performed manually, which is time consuming and tedious. Automatic methods based on digital image analysis accelerate measuring processes and give reproducible results. In this seminar we propose an automatic method to measure attributes of cells in compression wood transverse sections in fluorescence microscopy images.
