Security

It is important that your computer is protected. Most important is that you have a updated version of Windows and an antivirus program.

Windows update

By using MS Windows update regularly you get the latest security updates. Please see

• windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Update at least once a week. It is possible to configure the updates to download updates automatically. See Control panel -> Automatic updates.

Symantec antivirus

You should also have a antivirus program installed. At CBA we use Symantec antivirus 10.1 for Windows XP. Please ask Erik for a CD. When Symantec antivirus is properly installed you should run LiveUpdate regularly to make use of the most recent virus definition files. To setup your antivirus, double-click the yellow "shield" in the system tray. It is suggested that you upgrade every day. It is possible to run LiveUpdate automatically, see Schedule updates in the menu.

Windows firewall

Use the Windows firewall to block unwanted access to your computer. See Control panel -> Windows firewall.

Printers

To be able to use the printers at CBA you must follow the instructions below.

Printer pr2106 (Kitchen, 2106)

• Go to Control panel -> Printers and faxes
• Select Add a printer
• The add printer wizard appears. Click Next.
• Select the Local printer attached to my computer option and make sure to de-select the Automatically select... box. Click Next.
• Select Create new port and choose Standard TCP/IP port. Click Next.
• Enter the IP nr: 130.238.150.14 and click Next.
• If you entered the correct IP nr, a screen will show up that indicates that Windows found the printer (Adapter type: Hewlett Packard Jet Direct). Click Finish.
• Now you are prompted to select the proper drivers. Select HP Laser Jet 4050 PS and click Next.
• Now you should give the printer a name, type pr2106. If you want to use it as default printer, check the box. Click Next.
• Print a test page if you like. Click Next.
• Click Finish to complete the installation.

Printer pr2126 (Printer room, 2126)

Follow the instructions for pr2106 but change the following:

• The IP nr should be: 130.238.150.16
• Driver: HP Laser Jet 4250 PS (Download driver from HP)
• Name the printer pr2126

Color printer pr2126c (Printer room, 2126)

Follow the instructions for pr2106 but change the following:

• The IP nr should be: 130.238.150.17
• Driver: HP Color Laser Jet 5550 PS (Download driver from HP)
• Name the printer pr2126c

Scanners

In room 2103 there is a public PC with two scanners connected. One HP flat-bed scanner and one Minolta DIA scanner.

Map network drive

It is possible for you to map your account on the UNIX system so it becomes available from your PC. Before you continue doing this you need a SAMBA account which you can get from Erik. Once you have your SAMBA account, do the following:

• In My computer, select Tools -> Map network drive.
• In the Folder field you type \\majestix\username (puh is the UNIX server).
• Important! If your Windows username is the same as your UNIX username you can just continue, otherwise you must choose the Different user name option. The password you provide should be the SAMBA password (which preferrably is the same as the UNIX password).
• Click Finish.
• Note! To be able to access the whole system, not only your home directory, it is convenient to create a soft link to the root in your UNIX home directory, e.g., $ ln -s / theroot.

Matlab

Matlab 7 is available on CD (ask Erik). To install it you need the license file, which also include the PLP-code. Download the staff license from the license server: flexlmtmw1.uu.se. Matlab needs this file, so keep track of it. You can download the Matlab CD from the license server yourself.

E-mail

If you want to set up your Outlook express or other mail program you should give the following server information:

• Incoming (POP3): puh.cb.uu.se
• Outgoing (SMTP): mail.cb.uu.se

To read mail from the POP server you need a different password than the ordinary login password. Get it from Olle.
