Formal education in teaching
- Handledning steg II: Att handleda doktorander på forskarnivå. A three week course on how to supervise PhD students, fall 2008.
- Pedagogisk grundkurs III. A 12 day Educational Base Course organized by Uppsala University centrally, fall 1999. Project: Presentation and perception of course material during lectures at the faculty of Science at UU – a study based on student- as well as teacher questionnaires.
- Project Management, a four-day course in organized by SLU, the Swedish Universtiy of Agricultural Sciences, 2004.
- Utbildningsdag för handledare inom forskarutbildningen, a one-day course for PhD-student supervisors organized by the Medical Faculty, April 16, 2007.
- Participant in Conference on Educational Renewal, Uppsala April 3, 2007. This conference was part of the BASTU project described below.
Teaching experiences and administration of teaching
- 1998 – 2008: Lecturer in Digital image analysis and Computer assisted image analysis MN1, Department of Scientific Computing. 2002, 2004-2005 and 2007 also responsible for organization and administration of the course.
- 2004 – 2008: Lecturer in Advanced Course on Computerized Image Analysis MN2, Department of Scientific Computing. 2004 and 2008 also responsible for organization and administration of the course.
- Invited Lecturer to several courses for graduate and non-graduate students at Uppsala University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the Karolinska Institute (Current Scientific Methods, Light and Confocal Microscopy, Methods in Veterinary Medicine, Applied Digital Image Analysis).
- 1998-2001 Responsible for organization and administration of ‘Naturvetenskapliga forskarskolan’, a research school for college-level students. The administrative responsibilities included recruitment of lecturers and supervisors, planning of computer- and wet-lab projects for the students, writing applications for funding (a total budget of ~500 000 SEK/year), and planning of social activities for the students.
Production of teaching material
- In 2006 awarded 72.000 SEK from the ‘BASTU-project’, an effort to improve the quality of the education at UU by connecting the course in Computer Assisted Image Analysis with existing and coming courses within the different education programs and industry. This was achieved by introducing cross-disciplinary problem based projects and Matlab and as a tool for image analysis. New computer exercises were designed and teaching material was produced.
Student supervision
- Main supervisor for Amalka Pinidiyaarachchi, graduated as PhD in February 2009, Amin Allalou (PhD student since February 2007) and Milan Gavrilovic (PhD student since March 2007).
- Assistant supervisor for Patrick Karlsson, graduated as PhD September 2008
, and Patrik Malm (PhD student since May 2008).
- Supervision of more 15 master thesis students.
