Title Computing within Limits - ICT for Sustainability
Abstract

Sustainability has during the last 10 years become a (minor) theme at some computing conferences. There's a "Sustainable HCI" community that networks and organises activities (workshops, sessions etc.) at CHI and other conferences. For sustainability-oriented researchers in ICT in general (as well as in the social sciences), there is also the more specialised ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S) conferences. I will present what the intersection of sustainability and computing is about and also present the most hard-core sustainability community within computing, Computing within Limits (LIMITS) where “LIMITS aims to foster discussion on the impact of present or future ecological, material, energetic, and/or societal limits on computing” (http://computingwithinlimits.org).

In this talk I will:
- Present the Sustainable HCI, ICT for Sustainability and Computing within Limits communities (and venues)
- Present and discuss the underlying premises of ICT and Sustainability
