||The digitalization of health records and enabling patients accessing their own records is accompanied by worries, hopes, and critical discussions. Patients accessing their personalized health information has the potential to improve their knowledge regarding their condition, increase patient empowerment and patient satisfaction. Many medical professionals however are concerned that this might increase their work load and unnecessarily worry patients.
In this seminar I will talk about the concept of „Technological Frames“ by Orlikowski & Gash (1994). I will describe a current study, were we use this theory to analyze interviews with doctors conducted in 2012/13 - shortly after the „Online Medical Records“ and other eHealth services for patients were launched in Uppsala. The aim of this analysis is to explore how the professionals frame these technologies which then guide their actions. The results of this analysis are supposed to inform the design of our follow up interview study to be conducted in 2016.
