||The seminar starts from the need of an increased theoretical awareness and foundation in research connected to information technology. Gidden’s structuration theory (ST) has been widely cited by researchers in several different fields, such as HCI, IS or business studies. ST is a social theory that presents opportunities for researchers with an interest in organizational and social practice. The theory recognizes the activities of socially embedded agents, producing both continuity and change. The seminar presents an overall description of ST, highlights its strengths and weaknesses, and give some examples of how it can be applied in the broader IT field.
