Title αLBP a Novel Member of the Local Binary Pattern Family Based on α-cutting
Abstract Local Binary Patterns (LBPs) and their variants have shown to provide texture descriptors which are suitable for many applications, being well performing while at the same time computationally attractive and easy to implement. Combining the main idea of the LBP family with notions from the fuzzy set theory, we have recently proposed a novel addition to the LBP family. This descriptor, named αLBP, exhibits excellent performance in classification on three publicly available texture datasets. I will present the αLBP descriptor and its main properties, as well as some open questions and ideas for further research directions related to it.
