||After years of mostly experimental development and research, Augmented Reality (AR) seems to meanwhile gain great popularity in a variety of mainstream applications. This presentation will discuss the potential and limits of AR in the field of facility management and maintenance. In the talk I will generally outline performance requirements in various applications of AR and then introduce specific demands in indoor facility maintenance tasks. I will then present an experimental study which investigated users’ ability to precisely acquire target positions in the real environment using an AR-based guidance system that is built upon state-of-the-art system components. Different sources of re-positioning errors are discussed as well as other influential factors.
