Title Local orientation in images
Abstract While images consists of digitized measurements of light, direct pixels values are seldom used directly for classification and image analysis since are on a too low level. A natural higher level of image understanding can be based on local orientation in images, which can be estimated from groups of only three pixels. In this talk I'll review the most common methods of orientation extraction in 2D and 3D images and furthermore focus on how to summarize orientation data for larger regions. Some of the methods that will be mentioned are gradients, histograms, quadrature filters, and structure tensors which have a large range applications from photo stitching to texture analysis.
