||Abstract: Methods for Designing Autonomous Systems (MODAS) is a project about the future truck driver environment. When the use of automatic systems in the truck is increasing it is of great importance to design the driver environment wisely and use automatic systems in sufficient ways. My master thesis conducted just before I started my PhD here at Uppsala University was also a part of the MODAS project. The aim of the thesis was 1) to use Cognitive Work Analysis to identify opportunities for enhancing human-heavy vehicle system performance and 2) more efficiently identify opportunities for enhancing system performance through the development of a method for activity prioritizing. An observation study and interviews with drivers and an engineer was conducted. The results were presented in an Abstraction Hierarchy and a Contractual Activity Template (CAT). The CAT was prioritized according to importance and frequency, on the basis of this a set of potential improvement areas were identified. Now the first user testing of early concepts of the future truck driver environment developed within MODAS was just conducted and the next user testing will take place in May 2014.
