||Set distances are important and useful tools in a number of fields. Applications in image processing include object matching, pattern recognition and classification, image registration, image retrieval, etc. In the Vi2 Monday seminar I will present a number of novel set distances and demonstrate their usefulness for template matching and object classification. Examples include recognition of hand written digits and identification of virus particles. The proposed distances are defined for fuzzy sets but they can be successfully applied directly on grey level images. Theoretical properties of the proposed distances will be discussed and I intend to show that the considered distances have a number of appealing theoretical properties and also exhibit very good performance in practice.
