Titel Darwin was wrong - eyes are easy
Sammanfattning Light is a very efficient way to gather valuable information about the surroundings. It should therefore not be surprising that eyes have evolved multiple times, starting from a light sensitive patch of opsin. Based on the book "Evolution's Witness" by Ivan R. Schwab I will present some aspects of a number of different eye designs, from the simple nautilus pinhole eye to the most advanced designs necessary for hunting in the air, where dragonflies and eagles are the pinnacles of eye evolution in arthropods and vertebrates, respectively. So, Darwin was wrong in thinking that eyes are particularly difficult to construct by incremental evolution. Considering the wide variety of independently developed eyes, it seems to be no problem at all.
