In this seminar I will focus on different ways of making the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) -based family of texture descriptors rotation invariant, or at least less rotation variant. Evaluations of texture descriptors are often done empirically since there is no mathematical definition of texture in digital images. This implies that such an evaluation will depend on the dataset used. This fact will be touched in the seminar in connection to the acquisition of a new texture dataset which is intended to better facilitate these types of evaluations.
