Title An Introduction to Morphological Amoebas
Abstract Morphological amoebas are dynamical structuring elements that adapt their size and shape to the local structures of the image. The shape and size of the morphological amoeba is computed for each pixel around which is it is centered, where the resulting shape takes into account local variations of gray (or color) values and the distance to the pixel origin. I will present a brief introduction to morphological amoebas, addressing both the theoretical and implementation aspects as well as their applicability to different image analysis tasks. Furthermore, several possible directions for further investigations on morphological amoebas will be presented.
