2010-06-01The registration for the summer school is now open, please contact Anders Brun.

Background

Every year SSBA promotes a summer school in image analysis to be held at a swedish university. This year the summer school is arranged by Anders Brun at the Centre for Image Analysis in Uppsala in close collaboration with Klas Nordberg from the Computer Vision Laboratory at Linköping University. The course is an adapted version of Multidimensionell Signalanalys, a popular undergraduate course given at CVL during many years.

Venue

The course will be held at Centre for Image Analysis, House 2,
Polacksbacken, Uppsala University, Uppsala.
Travel directions to CBA are found here.
More information about Uppsala and links to hotels can be found at Uppsala Tourism.

Contents

The basis of the course are linear methods in image and signal analysis, for instance:
  • Bases and dual bases
  • Subspaces, operators, least squares problems
  • Frames, sampling and discrete signals
  • The wavelet transform, convolution, normalized convolution and filter banks
  • Filter optimization, generalized sampling and super resolution.
  • Tensors and the structure tensor.
This list may be subject to change.

Lecturers / Project advisors

Associate prof. Klas Nordberg, Computer Vision Laboratory, Linkping University

Prof. Dr. Rudolf Mester, J. W. Goethe-Universitaet Frankfurt

Program Director PhD Leif Haglund, SAAB Bofors Dynamics

Associate prof. Magnus Herberthson, Department of Mathematics, Linkping University

Associate prof. Cris Luengo, Centre for Image Analysis, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Assistant prof. Robin Strand, Centre for Image Analysis, Uppsala University.

PhD Bjrn Svensson, Sectra Mamea AB.

Computer Exercises and Assignments

There will be computer exercises during the course and several smaller tasks that needs to be solved.

Each participant should also select a topic for her individual project. The project should result in a computer exercise aimed at undergraduate level students, consisting of a complete description, background theory, questions to be answered, datasets and helper functions and answers. The idea is that we will release these exercises under an open source license after the course, so that they can be reused in real courses. You may collaborate in pairs during the project.

Examination

PhD Students who solve the assignment get 3 Swedish credit points (4.5 ECTS credit points). The examiner is Anders Brun, Centre for Image Analysis, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Cost

The course will be free of charge for PhD students and advanced undergraduate students in image analysis and computer vision. For other participants the fee is 3000 SEK. All participants must be members of SSBA.
Lunches, a social dinner, and an excursion are included in addition to the course itself. Travel and accomodation are not covered.
